The cost isn't the line item. It's the patchwork.
Every parent org already runs on something — group texts that nobody can search later, a hours spreadsheet handed off every August, paper sign-ups one volunteer chair keeps in a binder, a Venmo handle for buyouts, and a board treasurer holding the whole thing together in her head. The annual subscription is small. The real cost is the time, the lost context, and the dozen places where things slip through.
Lumicura isn't a fifth tool to add to the pile. It's the operating layer underneath what your parent org already does — a checked-in volunteer hour lands in the ledger, an announcement carries a read receipt, and the carnival-ticket Stripe payment lives next to the hours buyout. Same work, fewer cracks.
What that patchwork usually looks like
Because the treasurer will ask.
Do parents pay anything?
No. Lumicura is paid by the parent organization (or the school) as an annual subscription. Families log in with a magic link and pay nothing for the app itself. They only pay if your school uses Stripe for hours buyouts or fundraiser tickets — and that’s optional, in-app.
Where does the budget come from?
Typically this comes out of the PTO/PTA operating budget. We invoice in USD, accept ACH, check, or card, and issue a W-9 plus a 501(c)(3)-friendly receipt. Some schools instead bake the cost into tuition or a technology fee.
Why a flat band, not per family?
Parent orgs budget once a year. An invoice that creeps up every time enrollment ticks up is the fastest way to make a treasurer dread renewal. A flat band gives you one number to put on the budget line.
What if our enrollment changes mid-year?
We bill on the family count at contract start. Mid-year additions are free. If you grow past your band cap, we move you to the next band at your next renewal — never mid-year, never surprise.
Is there a free trial?
30 days, no card required. We import your real roster on day one so you’re testing on your community, not a sandbox. If it isn’t working for you, walk away — we’ll export everything you put in.
What's the SMS overage about?
Every band ships with 5,000 outbound SMS/year (15,000 on District / Diocese). After that it’s $40 per 1,000 SMS, billed at renewal. We surface usage in the admin dashboard so there are no surprise bills. Email and in-app push are unmetered.
How much file storage is included?
It comes with your band — see the table above. Everything the app keeps for you draws on that one pool: documents, message and announcement attachments, knowledge-base images. A file shared in three places is stored once and counted once. Like the price, the allowance isn’t a per-family multiplier and never prorates — a bigger band brings a bigger allowance at renewal. Free trials run on 1 GB.
What happens if we cancel?
You keep read-only access through the end of your billing period, plus a full machine-readable export of everything you put in — announcements, messages, ledger, documents, roster. The export commitment is in the DPA, not a sales promise.
Do you offer multi-school, district, or diocesan pricing?
Yes — the District / Diocese tier covers 1,500+ families or multi-school deployments. It includes network-level reporting (commitment hours across schools), SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning, and a single contract for the district or diocese office to sign. Pricing starts at ~$8,000/yr and is built around your enrollment.
